Campos lies in the south of Mallorca, in the Migjorn region, about 35 kilometres from the island capital of Palma. The south coast with its wide beaches is a few minutes away by car — including the well-known natural beach of Es Trenc and the coastal village of Sa Ràpita, both of which belong to the municipality. The landscape around the town is marked by open, flat country, criss-crossed by fields, almond groves and historic windmills that once served to draw water.

The climate

in Campos

Historic windmills on the plain of Campos

Campos is marked by a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters.

The region is among the driest areas on the island. Rain is rare especially in the summer months from June to August, which makes it an ideal place for sun lovers. In August average daytime highs reach about 31 °C. Nights are pleasantly warm, with lows around 21 °C. In the cooler months, such as February, average daytime highs are about 16 °C. These conditions make Campos an attractive place both for sun lovers and for those who prefer mild winters.

The landscape is shaped by wide fields, almond trees and the characteristic windmills that once served to draw water. This climate offers excellent conditions for farming and contributes to the region’s unique atmosphere.

Festivals, nature and birdlife

Campos brings together nature, culture and tradition in a unique way and so offers varied opportunities for leisure and relaxation. The municipality is known for its lively festivals and cultural events. A particular occasion is the Fira de ses Vaques in May, a traditional cattle fair with exhibitions, concerts and food. In summer the Festes de Mare de Déu del Carme take place in Sa Ràpita, honouring the patron saint of fishermen with processions and celebrations.

The protected wetland of Salobrar de Campos is a paradise for birdwatchers. The combination of dunes, salt meadows and lagoons creates a unique ecosystem that can be visited all year round. Only a few minutes away by car lie the glorious beaches of Es Trenc and Sa Ràpita. With their fine white sand and turquoise water they are among the finest beaches on the island and invite you to sunbathe, swim and take to the water.

Church and artistic treasure

The parish church of Sant Julià in the centre of Campos impresses with its neoclassical architecture. Particularly notable is the painting “Santo Cristo de la Paciencia” by the Sevillian painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, which can be seen in a side chapel of the church.

Connections and mobility

Campos has well-developed transport links. The Ma-19 connects the island capital of Palma with Campos. The journey from Palma de Mallorca airport to Campos takes about 22 minutes by car.

For travellers without a car, public bus services are available. They connect Campos directly with the airport and Palma in about 50 minutes. Several regional buses also run regularly between Campos and surrounding places such as Llucmajor and Ses Covetes.

Within the municipality of Campos, the scattered settlements such as Ses Covetes or Sa Vinyola are best reached by car, as local public transport is limited in those areas.

Local shops, schools and doctors

Despite its rural character, Campos offers sound infrastructure with supermarkets, bakeries, pharmacies, banks and a good choice of restaurants and cafés. The region is known for its traditional baking and cheese specialities, which are also sold at the lively weekly market held in the town centre.

Families will find childcare, a primary school and a secondary school on the spot. International schools are in Palma and can be reached in about 30 to 40 minutes. Basic medical care is covered by a local health centre; larger clinics are available in Manacor or Palma. The renowned Rafa Nadal sports and education centre in Manacor is only about 25 minutes’ drive away.

Types of property

in Campos

Campos offers above all traditional fincas (country houses) and village houses with courtyards in the centre. Many of these properties radiate historic charm and have the natural stone façades typical of the island. Alongside them, new-build villas and chalets appear here and there, some with modern design, a pool and generous gardens.

Plots for building to your own design can also be found in the area. Most properties in Campos are marked by a quiet setting amid nature — often with a wide view over fields and the plains of southern Mallorca. Investors also value the stable development of values: the combination of limited supply, growing demand from abroad and the appeal of nearby Es Trenc means property in the region has good prospects.
